Come watch Australia’s celebrity chef Matt Moran join Colin on his adventures around Australia’s wine regions. This time Colin swoops back through his old stomping grounds in Adelaide before Matt and himself take off to Kangaroo Island on a small plane to visit Greg Follet from False Cape Vineyards!
After checking out the local vineyards they went off for a bit of island adventure, yet this time it was not just the usual extreme sport. They decide to dive into some sharky waters where WINERAM Co-Director and Trained Diver Rupert Critchley says “it was the most dodgy dive he had done in his life”. With limited visibility, smashing surf, Matt, Colin and Greg have a blast diving and come out of it with not only their lives but also with some fresh seafood to have Matt school Colin in the kitchen during a fun cook off back at their cabin.
After finishing up seeing Hunter Valley’s vineyards from the air in as many ways as possible and checking out their soil profiles that contribute to the great Shiraz and Semillon of the region we decided to take off south to Canberra in the ACT. The first winery to ever be stablished in Canberra was called Mount Majura Vineyard. “Establishing a vineyard” isn’t an easy task to do and so Colin desperately wanted to learn a bit more about how one would go about doing that. First however he had to see if he could “spot” any of the limestone plains Canberra was so well known for from the air, this time not just by plan. He winds up connecting with a young fun winemaker Simon Steele from BROKENWOOD Wines. They get right into the soils and the vineyards behind Simon’s amazing wines; before they take the word “wine tour” to a whole new height! Watch us checking out the Hunter Valley Semillon and Shiraz and also case the region’s vineyards from hot air balloons, helicopters and FIGHTER JETS! The first episode of the 8 part series “WINERAM Australia”, Colin leaves his cellar-hand winemaking position in the Barossa Valley to hit the road and tour all the wine regions Australia has to offer. First stop is the Strathbogie Ranges with winemaker Matt Fowles of Fowles Wines! Matt is renown for some forward thinking labels “Are you game” and “Ladies who shoot their lunch”. Matt takes Colin into his home to show him his way of life that certainly involved going out into the vineyard to go rabbit hunting and teach Colin about the fundamentals of food and wine matching, and especially so when it comes to matching wine with wild game. Check out this amazing food and wine experience, where by the end of the episode they are matching the wine from the vineyards where they went hunting wild game that very same night!
